VOLT Institute’s Mobile Program Fuels Tracy’s Logistics Boom

The City of Tracy has emerged as a major industrial and distribution hub in the Northern Central Valley and Bay Area supply chains.
From its ideal geographic location and convenient transportation infrastructure to an abundance of industrial land, it serves as a critical point in the east-west and north-south logistics network.
As the hub grows, there’s also an incredible need throughout our region for skilled industrial workers. And one local training institute is answering the call by bringing its hands-on learning programs directly to students.
Taking Charge of the Future
VOLT Institute, a trade school and technical center in downtown Modesto, offers hands-on training across in-demand industrial, maintenance, and manufacturing trades programs.
From electrical theory and production assembly to process controls and hydraulic systems, the curriculum is fast-paced and hands-on.
As a member of the Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA), VOLT students have access to SACA Industry 4.0 certificates, which are highly valuable for both students and employers in advanced manufacturing and logistics.
It validates their ability to work with the smart technologies, digital tools, and automation systems that are the standard in modern and more advanced manufacturing and automated environments, as seen in the Tracy area.
VOLT-on-the-Go!
Thanks to a $1.2 million federal grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, the school now offers its VOLT-on-the-Go mobile training program.
By bringing the hands-on learning experience directly to the student, the program removes geographic and transportation barriers for individuals who may not have the ability to commute to the Modesto campus.
By helping prepare more skilled workers for industrial, technical, and logistical jobs, VOLT-on-the-Go is helping further sharpen the skill set of the technical workforce in the Northern San Joaquin Valley, making the area even more attractive for prospective and growing businesses.
A Thriving Sector
Manufacturing continues to be a major contributor to the California economy, for both GDP and employment.
In fact, the state leads the nation in total manufacturing output, producing a whopping $400 billion in manufactured goods every year, representing approximately 10% of California’s total GDP.
Manufacturing also brings quality jobs to our region. The industry employs more than 1.2 million Californians, playing a critical role in driving economic growth.
As the City of Tracy continues to partner with institutions like VOLT, we’re able to offer stable, good-paying jobs to skilled workers in the region, creating a foundation for economic resilience and aligning our workforce initiatives with one of California’s most resilient and vital industries.
